Just A Little Update

{Guess who's back, back again...}

This week has been #crazy. First, and most importantly, I am back in NYC! Over the weekend I moved into my new dorm room.  I can’t even explain how great it is to be back and see all of my sweet friends.  Our classes don’t start until next week so we are taking this time to unpack, settle in, and catch up with each other. We flew up Friday and my mom and Aunt Karen were here to help me move in, they stayed until Tuesday.  We had the best time shopping, sight seeing, and (obviously) eating a lot of great food.

{The Bluebell Cafe - great food and it's super cute}

{Central Park}

My dorm room is AMAZING. We have such a great common space and views of the Empire State Building.  I’m so excited that we are in such a great location and there are a lot of friends in the building, which will make for a very fun year. I still love blogging and it is something I am going to continue throughout the school year.  I have so many fun ideas for posts and I appreciate everyone who has been so supportive throughout this journey.  With over 1300 views now I am so excited to continue, I never thought people would read this and I hope to continue posting fun things to keep y’all interested ;) Stay tuned! And let me know if there is anything you would like to see on Handbags & Heartbeats this year.

{Oh hey, Empire State Building, fancy seeing you from my room...}

Rainy Day Reads: Mindy Kaling

I have always loved to read, as I have gotten older it has been harder to find time to sit down and enjoy a good book.  This summer, I was able to get through several books on my list – thanks to several rainy days at the beach.  One of them was Mindy Kaling’s memoir, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) a collection of essays, anecdotes, and stand up bits that was hilarious and a really great read. And now I just really want to hang out with her.  She is someone that everyone can relate to, detailing everything from body image, to her awkward encounters with people, and especially her work adventures, every story provides some kind of link into her readers personal lives.  It is always so refreshing when you realize someone famous is like you and, wait for it…. normal *gasp* Her ups and downs prove that success does not come over night and it is refreshing to read about someone who worked hard to succeed, without sacrificing who she is in the process. Mindy had me laughing out loud and calling my friends in to the room with a, “Hey! Listen to this…” After thoroughly enjoying this book, I can’t wait for her new book, entitled Why Not Me? to debut out in the coming year.  Basically, Mindy is great, and if you’re looking for a fun, happy, and hilarious read then this is the book for you!

Tuesday Tunes #2

Second installment of Tuesday Tunes!  I had some more music on my playlist I have been loving so I figured I would share! I have attached the music videos so feel free to click and listen along!

Nina – Ed Sheeran
Another great one from Ed’s new album X – I'm convinced he can do no wrong.

Tennis Courts (Flume Remix) – Lorde
I love this EDM take on Lorde, surprising tempo changes with the same great sound and lyrics.  I like that they didn’t change the song too much but really just added new elements to it.

Cool Kids – Echosmith
I love this song, it’s so fun to sing along to and I am obsessed with the covers people are doing on Vine and YouTube.

Famous – Kelleigh Bannen
This is definitely one of my favorite country “revenge” songs.  Telling everyone he's a big jerk is a lot easier than trashing his car.

August Favorites

I have always loved makeup, I have so much fun trying new things and testing out different products. These are some of the products I have loved in the month of August!

I love lipstick and wear it almost everyday. The Clinique lipstick was actually a free gift my mom got, I have loved it – it’s a darker red, but not too dramatic, and it looks good with my fair skin.  The Clinique Chubby Stick is something I have purchased many times. It provides a natural red lip and feels like Chapstick.  It's so easy and comfortable I wear it almost every day.

I have really enjoyed the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palate, the colors are great.  It comes with look ideas, you can follow their design or mix and match the colors to create your own; either way it’s a great staple palate.  Plus it’s small so it is much easier to travel with, as opposed to the Naked palates.

Essie nail polish is my favorite, I love to wear fun colors on my nails.  Bikini So Teeny is a gorgeous baby blue color with a hint of sparkle and Turquoise and Caicos is a beautiful aqua color, perfect for the beach!

I finally caved and got the Nars Orgasm blush. Ohmygoodness I love it.  It looks a bit scary at first (it is much brighter in real life) but as soon as you put it on you get a gorgeous flush that looks so natural.  I love it, highly pigmented, long lasting, and it looks great on all skin tones!
