Snow Day

"Snowverated" is the word of the day this morning in New York City.  After all of the preparation and worried texts from my parents, I woke up to freshly plowed streets and clear sidewalks.  The 2 feet of snow we were supposed to be covered in was, on my end, only about 5 inches.  With school called off and most of the places in my neighborhood closed, this day is just a continuation of the break that was supposed to end yesterday.  I got back to the city Saturday and was happily reunited with friends and my favorite city.  New York said "Welcome home!" with a lovely blizzard and my winter break is now the never-ending vacation.  My school cancelled classes yesterday afternoon when the storm was at its peak; the prediction looked horrible and I was glad we weren't going to take any chances.  Last year I was just told to trek safely to class in the snow storm that covered Washington Square Park with nearly a foot of accumulation.  This snow day is NOTHING compared to the tundra I had to walk through last year.  On the bright side, my school can't send an email retracting their previous decision to cancel all classes, I think if they could they definitely would.

I am excited to stay in my pajamas all day and catch up on some reading - I am halfway through We Were Liars by E. Lockhart for my sorority book club and so far it's a good story, and an easy read! My roommates and I have thrilling plans to drink lots of hot chocolate and watch too much "Dance Moms". A snow day is the perfect excuse to do nothing, despite a lack of snow, I'm happy for a reason to stay home all day and make fun of the blizzard that never came.

LL Bean Duck Boots

Wanna know what saved me from the NYC polar vortex last year? LL Bean Duck Boots. These boots are AMAZING and I literally lived in them through all of the cold and slush that New York threw my way last winter.  I got the 8” boots with Gore-Tex and Thinsulate lining (sounds fancy right?) That’s just a cool way of saying they’re super warm and durable.  What I love most about the boots is no matter how many slush puddles I step into, my feet never got wet or cold.  In New York, when the snow begins to melt you are left with deceiving puddles on every corner; puddles that look harmless but are MUCH deeper than they appear.

Having the taller boots helped with this situation, plus I love the look of the taller boots with cute socks sticking out.  They are perfect with leggings or jeans and I know I will be living in them again when the time comes.  If you are unsure what size or style you should order, call the customer service number – one thing I LOVE about LL Bean is they always let you talk to a real person. The guy I spoke to was nice enough to tell me what size I should get and recommend the best model for me based on where I live and what kind of weather I deal with daily. Get them now while you can, by November they are typically on backorder and you definitely want them in time for the cold weather!
